The Gigabit-over-copper Catalyst 2950T-24 switch is a component of the Cisco Gigabit Ethernet over copper solution , offering 10/100/1000BaseT uplinks and is ideally suited for customers who want to migrate from Fast Ethernet to a higher performance Gigabit Ethernet backbone using existing Category 5 copper cabling.

Cisco has extended its set of Cisco IOS-based security, availability and management features to the Catalyst 3550 and 2950 Series Intelligent Ethernet switch platforms. These features allow users to secure network management traffic by encrypting passwords and configuration information; provide options for network security based on users, ports and/or Macintosh addresses; and restrict access to sensitive areas in a network. By extending its set of Cisco IOS-based security, availability and management features, Cisco reinforces its SAFE Blueprint, enabling customers to more fully guard their networks through secure connectivity, perimeter security, intrusion protection, identity services and security management.
