The Catalyst 4000 family platform
now features a next-generation series -- the Catalyst
4500. This series includes four new Catalyst chassis:
the Catalyst 4510R (10-slot -- redundant Supervisor
Engine V capable), Catalyst 4507R (7-slot -- redundant
Supervisor Engine capable), the Catalyst 4506 (6-slot),
and the Catalyst 4503 (3-slot). Cisco Catalyst 4500
Series Switches are designed for Enterprise wiring
closets, branch offices and Layer 3 distribution points.

Key Features :
- Supports Layer 2 (MAC), Layer 3 (IP address),
and Layer 4 (TCP/UDP port) switching
- Provides QoS for both Layer 2 class of service (CoS)
and Layer 3 type of service (ToS), traffic shaping,
sharing, policing, and congestion avoidance with
Dynamic Buffer Limiting (DBL)
- Provides dual supervisor engines with subsecond
failover. Layer 2 sessions remain up. Layer 3
forwarding continues during a routing event.

A next generation Cisco Catalyst
4000 Family platform for Intelligent Switching, the
Catalyst 4500 Series includes four new Catalyst chassis:
Catalyst 45010R (10-slot: redundant Supervisor Engine V
capable), Catalyst 4507R (7-slot: redundant Supervisor
Engine capable), Catalyst 4506 (6-slot) and Catalyst
4503 (3-slot). The Catalyst 4500 Series is comprised of
a series of chassis which support three choices of
Supervisor Engines and an extensive set of line cards
including high density, 10/100, 10/100/1000 (both with
802.3af Power over Ethernet Options), 100-FX, and
1000BASE-X.
Catalyst 4500 Supervisor Engine V
(WS-X4516) (New) offers port scalability (required for
Catalyst 4510R) for resilient wire speed Layer 2/3/4
switching and routing for high-end Enterprise wiring
closets, layer 3 distribution points and large
Enterprise branch office deployments. (NetFlow option)
Catalyst 4500 Supervisor Engine IV
(WS-X4515) offers resilient wire speed Layer 2/3/4
switching and routing for Enterprise wiring closets,
layer 3 distribution points and medium Enterprise branch
office deployments. (NetFlow option)
Catalyst 4500 Supervisor Engine
II-Plus (WS-X4013+) offers entry-level resilient Layer 2
switching with basic Layer 3 Services for medium
Enterprise wiring closets and small Enterprise branch
office deployments. Aggressive new pricing makes it more
affordable than ever for small and mid-sized customers
to utilize Gigabit Ethernet and intelligent services for
modular wiring closet connectivity at the network edge.
Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Line
Cards: Compatible with both the Catalyst 4500 Series and
the Catalyst 4000 Series modular chassis, these line
cards can be mixed and matched to suit a wide-range of
customer wiring closet, branch office, data center and
metro Ethernet deployments.
