Cisco Catalyst 4840G Load Balancing Switch

The Cisco Catalyst 4840G is a fixed configuration Server Load Balancing switch with 40 RJ-45 10/100 ports and two Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports utilizing modular GBIC interfaces.  The switch is ideal for deployment in ISP, non-stop e-commerce, and enterprise sites that require wire-speed SLB.

The Catalyst 4840G SLB switch provides a compact solution for designs that do not require the high port densities offered by the Catalyst 6000 family of switches. The Catalyst 4840G can also be used to provide comprehensive switching Layer 2,3 and 4 infrastructure with the Cisco 11000 series of Content Services Switches or Local Director providing advanced Layer 5-7 Content Switching capabilities as an overlay infrastructure.

The Catalyst 4840G delivers the highest performance and port density in a small 2 RU (1.75 inches high) chassis. It is capable of switching traffic simultaneously through all ports at wire speed.  The architecture has a 22-Gbps non-blocking switch fabric, multiple high-performance RISC processors for routing intelligence and advanced software features, and dedicated per-port ASICs for wire-speed performance.
